Washington EMS Begins Leave Behind Program

10/16/2025

City of Washington EMS has teamed up with DCCCA’s  Kansas Naloxone Program and Leave Behind Program to distribute free Naloxone leave-behind kits to opioid overdose victims and their friends/families.

The goal of the program is to help prevent future overdoses and connect patients to resources that will empower them to end their dependence on opioids and make recovery possible. Funding for this program was provided through the State Opioid Response grant initiative from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration and Healthy Blue of Kansas.

Each kit is a storage bag that includes four doses of Naloxone, a life-saving medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid, a CPR face shield, instructions, as well as literature and resources for substance abuse, mental health, and addiction treatment options, two substance disposal kits, and fentanyl test kits. The kits can be left with patients, as well as friends/family of the patient, at the conclusion of an overdose response situation.

“We are grateful to the program for allowing us to establish this initiative in the community we serve.  This program is about saving lives, and that’s what our job is.  The more resources we have available at our disposal, the better,” said AEMT Caroline Scoville.
